An international internship can enrich and expand the knowledge needed in our ever-changing world and enhance the scope of education beyond borders. Regardless of whether you will eventually be looking for U.S. or international employment, an overseas internship will enhance your resume and can enhance your future prospects in the job market.
Peace Corps
The Peace Corps traces its roots and mission to 1960, when then-Senator John F. Kennedy challenged students at the University of Michigan to serve their country in the cause of peace by living and working in developing countries. From that inspiration grew an agency of the federal government devoted to world peace and friendship.
Since that time, more than 170,000 Peace Corps Volunteers have been invited by 136 host countries to work on issues ranging from AIDS education, information technology, and environmental preservation. Over 800 of those Volunteers have been graduates of the University of Florida, more than any other school in the Southeast.
Scholarships
Undergraduate scholarships and graduate fellowships are forms of aid that help students pay for their educations. Unlike loans, they do not have to be repaid. Scholarship criteria vary. Generally, scholarships and fellowships are reserved for students with special qualifications, such as academic, athletic or artistic talent. Awards are also available for students who are interested in particular fields of study, who live in certain areas of the country or who demonstrate financial need.
