Like most American universities, UF has a school mascot: the alligator. You will notice many references to these "gators", from students wearing Gators t-shirts to the names of campus facilities (Gator Dining Hall) and services (GatorLink email and the Gator 1 ID card). All UF sports teams are also nicknamed the Gators. American football is very popular at UF. During football season in the fall semester, Gainesville becomes an even livelier place. More than 80,000 football fans attend games in Ben Hill Griffin Stadium, also known as "the Swamp".
