J-1 Status

Research scholars and professors who are invited to visit the University of Florida to conduct research, observe, teach or consult on a temporary basis may be sponsored for the J Exchange Visitor program.

The primary purpose of the J-1 Exchange Visitor program, is “to increase mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries by means of educational and cultural exchanges.” Detailed information about the J Exchange Visitor program and obtaining a J-1 visa is available on the Department of State web site.

The University of Florida International Center is the official Program Sponsor designated by the Department of State (DOS) to administer J-1 Exchange Visitor programs at UF. The Faculty & Scholar Services (FSS) section in the UFIC has the responsibility of interpreting and implementing federal regulations that cover the exchange visitor program, and administering the program in a manner that fulfills the university’s objectives with regard to visiting research scholars, professors, and short-term scholars.
