Prevailing Wage Determinations
Prevailing wages determination(PWD) for positions in the State of Florida are obtained online at the website of the Agency for Workforce Innovation (AWI), Alien Labor Certification (SESA) at: www.floridajobs.org/wps_alc/prev_wages.html
The prevailing wage determination must be obtained from the state agency having jurisdiction over the actual site where the work is performed. The position classification (O*Net code) that is selected must match the responsibilities and duties of the associated UF position. The contact information provided on the on-line request form should reflect contact information for the department/center administrative staff member who requests the PWD. If the job site is not in Florida, please contact the Coordinator for Faculty and Scholar Services in the International Center for instructions.
If the electronic version of the AWI Prevailing wage Request form is unavailable, the AWI will accept faxed requests. PWD request forms may be faxed to the Agency for Workforce Innovation in Tallahassee, Florida. The PWD will be returned by fax, usually within ten business days. When completing the job specifications portion on the request form, in either the online or paper version, indicate the field of employment or the name of the department for which the job to be performed, i.e., chemistry, physics, etc. Also, distinguish the duties of the position as involving either full-time research, or full-time teaching, or a combination of both teaching and research activities. Providing this type of description will result in the issuance of an accurate PWD for the position.
Skill Levels
Assistant professors and other faculty ranks below associate professor are normally identified as Skill I level positions. Any position that requires the employee to possess three or more years of experience to qualify for the position should be identified as a Skill II level position.
Prevailing Wage Determination Validity Periods
Prevailing Wages are valid for the entire fiscal year in which they are issued unless the wage is issued in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year (April, May or June); in such cases, the prevailing wage will expire 90 days from the date of determination, even if that period extends beyond the end of the fiscal year, June 30.
