What are Reciprocal Agreements?

Reciprocal Agreements provide for the equal exchange of students between the University of Florida and an international institution. They are detailed, legally binding contracts. The agreements' provisions address administrative concerns of either institution: tuition and credit exchange; selection of students; declaration of responsibility regarding housing, transportation, risk policy, advertisement, etc; and administration of the program.

Study Abroad

Reciprocal agreements are the foundation for the exchange programs in which so many UF students are involved. In an Exchange Program, students pay UF tuition and are assigned UF course equivalencies for the work they do abroad, and the grades are factored into their UF GPAs. Proposing a Reciprocal Agreement

The basic steps for proposing a reciprocal agreement involve negotiating the terms of the agreement with both parties, filling out and submitting a pre-approved reciprocal agreement, getting the approval of the Department Chair and College Dean, the agreement and all accompanying documents are submitted electronically to UFIC prior to the agreements being signed by either party. UFIC and UF General Council verify the legality of the agreement, finally UF's president and the cooperating institution both sign the agreement. For complete instructions, please read the detailed directions.
