Dr. Tiedje will present an abstract titled: “Cultural and Spiritual Values of Nature for Understanding Health and Healing: The Teyomej and Other Earth Spirits in Nahua Etiology”. This presentation will examine how the process of environmental degradation should be problematized in terms of indigenous rights in an era where cultural diversity and biodiversity protection have become new idioms of the international community. According to Dr. Tiedje, it is not possible to speak of indigenous conceptions of health and healing without also analyzing indigenous perceptions of nature related to indigenous spirituality and the principles of interconnectedness and reciprocity.
