"Discipline, Democracy, and the Politics of the Multitude"
a presentation by Dr. Dipesh Chakrabarty
The presentation is for the symposium titled "Globalization and Its Discontents," scheduled for Friday, September 28, at the Special Collections room of the Smathers Library. It is free and open to the public. Dr. Chakrabarty has recently assumed the position of professor of South Asian languages and civilizations at the University of Chicago. He is a native of India and an Australian citizen.
Not only is Dr. Chakrabarty without a doubt one of the most influential scholars working in the field of Asian studies today but, more importantly, his works reach an audience that extends well into other disciplines and the wider educated public. His current research interest on the relationship between globalization and democratic practices promises to shed significant new light on this critical issue.
