Introduction

Internationalization is currently generally in vogue and specifically a focus of the University's SACS review. Many women on campus have not simply been talking about it; they have been leaders in actually accomplishing it through their teaching, research, grant writing, program development and administration. They have recognized that the complex global issues of the 21st century require innovative, multidisciplinary approaches, but "innovation" and "multidisciplinary" are often not compatible with entrenched bureaucratic structures that inevitably characterize large educational institutions such as UF. For most, "making it happen" has been both frustrating and rewarding.

Invitation & Challenge

We are looking for UF women at all levels, from all departments, units, and colleges, who have made and continue to make lasting contributions to internationalization at UF. Your contributions can be in service, research, teaching, or administration. We want to compile a directory and fill a website with information about you and the important work that you do here.

This International Symposium is an opportunity to share experiences, celebrate accomplishments, reminisce with humor on the frustrations and think about how as a group we might improve opportunities for internationalization at UF beyond our individually successful projects and efforts. Short presentations will be followed by general discussion. Refreshments will be served.

Guidelines for Presenters

1. Each presentation will be three minutes long.

2. You may use overhead transparencies, handouts, Powerpoint, or any other AV method, but you must stick to the three-minute limit.

3. Tell us:

  • Who you are
  • Where you work
  • What you have been doing that has helped UF internationalize

4. Prepare a one paragraph abstract of the above that includes your name and contact information to be placed on the website and in the directory.

5. Send Information to: Alana A. Lynch
