Check-in process for New International Students
When you arrive at the University of Florida to start your program, you need to come to UFIC as soon as possible. UFIC is located in 170 Hub Stadium Road.
All international students coming to UF are responsible for maintaining legal immigrant status and valid insurance coverage. When checking-in with us, you must read, sign and submit to UFIC the Responsibility Form. UFIC will also check your documents and health insurance coverage for Immigration and UF purposes.
To check your documents, please bring your I-20 or DS-2019, I-94 card, Passport, and Visa with you to UFIC.
To check your health insurance, you need to prove you have health insurance. The international student health insurance must meet the standards of the UF Board of Trustees.
-
If you already have health insurance, please bring proof showing you have insurance and the Insurance Verification Form (sent to you in the I-20 package) signed by the insurance company.
-
If you do not have health insurance, please click here to find more information about obtaining health insurance coverage.
Once UFIC checks your health insurance documents, we will clear your insurance hold on Student Records. We also check other holds you may have which would prevent you from registering. If there are other holds we will explain how to clear them. Frecuently, students have the "Immunization" hold and the Emergency Contact hold. To clear the Immunization hold, you take your immunization documents to the Student Health Care Center (SHCC).
If you are a transfer student from another school, you need to complete your transfer with UFIC. You have to present to UFIC your passport/visa/I-94, UF I-20 and the previous school's I-20. You have 15 days from the first day of class to complete this procedure or you will be out of status in SEVIS.
Once you are registered for classes, UFIC will report you in SEVIS (Student and Exchange Visitors Information System) and issue a new I-20 showing you are in "Continued Attendance at this school." You will be notified by email when the new I-20 is ready for pick up at the front desk in UFIC. The new I-20 will be signed on the third page for travel outside the U.S. This signature is valid for only one year.
All International students must report the US address to UF and USCIS.
In order to access the UF Directory, first you need to get your GatorLink e-mail account. You can get assistance to create your e-mail account in teh HUB at the Computer Help Desk. You will need your student ID card. UFIC sends important information to your GatorLink e-mail account.
Get your Student Identification Card at the Reitz Union . You will need your I-20 or DS-2019, passport, visa, I-94, and $15.00.
If you will be working on campus or have an assistantship you will need a Social Security Number (this is not the number issued by the school). To obtain your SSN, take your "continued attendance" I-20 or DS-2019, the letter of appointment (must be on UF letterhead), UFIC letter of student status verification, your passport/visa, and I-94 to the Social security Office. Maps are located in 170 Hub.
