Closest post office to campus: 1630 NW 1st Avenue, behind the UF Gator Plaza and Chain Reaction bicycle shop. This post office is open weekdays 8-5 and Saturday 9-11.
Groceries top>>
There are a number of large grocery stores or supermarkets in Gainesville. There are several different chains of stores: Publix, Winn-Dixie, Kash'n Karry, and Albertson's. These chains have several stores in different locations. The phone book lists the addresses under "Grocers".
The closest grocery stores to popular student areas are:
- Publix - located in the Westgate Shopping Center at the intersection of University Ave. and 34th St.
- Winn-Dixie - located at 2500 N. Main Street, is close to La Mancha Apartments.
For health food:
- Mother Earth Market - located at 521 SW 13th Street.
- Ward's Supermarket - located at 515 NW 23rd Ave.
Household Items top>>
Items that you will need once you move into your apartment can be found at "mega-stores" such as Wal-Mart and Target. These stores are very large and sell most things you would need including linens, appliances, clothing, bicycles, some food items, electronics, and medicines.
Wal-Mart has two stores in town that are accessible from the RTS bus route. The closest from campus is located at 2649 NW 13th Street. For store information call 378-0619. Another Wal-Mart is located in the Butler Plaza Shopping Center on Archer Road. Wal-Mart is open 24 hours, seven days a week.
Target is located at 3970 SW Archer Road in the Butler Plaza Shopping Center (phone: 376-5260). Archer Road is an area with many specialty shops, restaurants, grocery stores and a movie theater.
Dollar Stores
These stores sell many kinds of merchandise, from cups and dishes to candy. All items in these stores cost $1.00 each. Dollar stores are a good way to find some things for your apartment at very cheap prices.

Thrift stores sell used items that have been donated to the store. At thrift stores you can often find items such as furniture and household items like lamps and dishes inexpensively.

The Oaks Mall is Gainesville's only shopping mall, located off Newberry
Road. There are four department stores and more than 150 specialty stores
and boutiques. Several of the shopping centers located in the Butler Plaza
area have clothing stores such as Old Navy and others.
